Hydro-power developers want the Great Basin’s groundwater and open spaces. We must step up to stop them.

A proposal from Salt Lake City developer, rPlus Hydro, will siphon billions of gallons of water away from a rural aquifer for new reservoirs and pumping schemes that will diminish water availability and impose a major industrial zone in a peaceful valley.

The project will dewater mountains, degrade the scenic lands, impact community water supplies and harm tourism.

The crux of the project: rPlus wants new reservoirs filled with groundwater. The company will pump that water uphill with dirty fossil fuels only to send it downhill, via a pipeline blown into the beautiful Duck Creek Range, to spin turbines.

What’s more: The aquifer in the region is already in decline. Springs are already going dry. Wells must already be drilled deeper. And Mother Nature is not delivering what she once did in the region.
