Great Basin WATERKEEPER

Great Basin Water Netowrk is an affiliate of the international WATERKEEPER ALLIANCE.

Our shared priorities of defending groundwater and surface water give us a strong partnership that spans the globe. We work closely with other affiliate members, including the COLORADO RIVERKEEPER and the LAS VEGAS WATER DEFENDER.

The Waterkeeper Alliance (WKA), comprised of more than 350 on-the-water advocates, patrols and protects more than 100,000 miles of rivers, lakes and coastlines on six continents. Headquartered in New York City.

WHAT IS A WATERKEEPER AFFILIATE?

Waterkeeper Affiliates stand as provisionally-licensed Waterkeeper organizations representing a specific waterway. Waterkeeper Affiliates are associated with Waterkeeper Alliance as partners across the globe advocating for everyone’s right to swimmable, drinkable, and fishable water, while on a track to become fully licensed Waterkeeper organizations.

OUR JURISDICTION

We protect the heart of the Great Basin in Snake, Spring, Hamlin, Dry Lake, Delamar, Pine, Wah Wah, Tule, and Fish Springs Valleys, among others in Nevada and Utah. We survey, monitor and vow to ensure that water sources in the nation’s driest places remain vibrant for future generations.

OUR MISSION

We oppose large-scale inter-basin transfers of water designed to facilitate sprawl development in arid regions. There is a nexus with the Colorado River. As places like Las Vegas, Phoenix and Los Angeles receive less of the river, we work to defend those major metro areas from coming to rural places in order to export water.
